I'm currently writing for several outdoor magazines including Outdoor Life, Petersen's Hunting, Heartland USA, Shooting Sportsman, Fair Chase (Boone and Crockett Club) and Deer & Deer Hunting. I have earlier been well-published in Field & Stream, Gray's Sporting Journal, Fur-Fish & Game, American Hunter (NRA), Gun Dog and was a field editor for Hunting Dog magazine. Right now (May 2007) I'm working on a query to Smithsonian about the current surge of scientific interest in antlers. In my other, former life as a research ceramic/glass engineer, I presented two of my technical papers internationally (...hey, in thirteen countries, if you include Canada!), and these were translated for publishing in four languages.

I'm also the author of three books, all published by Stackpole Books: Making the Most of Your Deer (0-8117-3162-6) and Grouse Hunter's Guide (0-8117-0772-5) are now both in 2nd edition. My most recent book (Sept. 2005) is, ANTLERS: A Guide to Collecting, Scoring, Mounting and Carving (0-8117-3229-6), which was favorably reviewed as “a remarkable book” on ESPN Online, at the following address:

(Also, Duncan Dobie, Editor of North American Whitetail magazine, e-mailed me on 2-17-06 to say, “You did a great job on your [antler] book. Very well done!“)

Some of my most recent magazine articles can be seen in this website via the LINKS section, and a few older ones are in ARTICLES. I live in western New York State seven miles south of the bridge over Chautauqua Lake. Do I have “pets”? No, Real Men don't have “pets”, they have falcons or horses or dogs, or similar types. I have a bird dog (an Elhew Pointer) and a beagle, spelled with a lower case “b“. I had two horses until eight years ago, and used to ride them at full gallop through woods and over fallen logs in a reckless way that now almost causes me pain just to remember. I sold the horses and took up downhill skiing...snow is much softer than the bare ground, and I'm speaking from experience!
