This is for the 2nd edition (2004 softcover), which has the front cover shown above, and it contains virtually everything as-written in the first edition plus new data.
I have a limited supply of 1st edition books (1985 hardcover with dustcover) for $35.00 each. The front cover of this first edition book is illustrated with a photo I took afield of my English Pointer "Kate" retrieving a grouse I had shot just moments earlier. The back cover is outlined with grouse fantails of different color phases from my collection. I wrote the book during the winter of 1983-84 with pencil and tablet paper, and did my Cut/Paste with scissors and tape.

Dennis Walrod takes beginning and experienced grouse hunters alike through an examination of key aspects of the hunt: how to get the most out of a covert, choosing guns and dogs, as well as concerns particular to autumn stalking or winter hunting. The emphasis falls on grouse hunting as a sport pursued for the thrill of the hunt, the adrenaline shot brought by the force of a flush, rather than the quest for impressive numbers.
